GRM are happy to announce that we are finalists in the “Automotive Application” category at the 2018 JEC Composites Awards.
Achieving recognition and being placed in the Top 3 for this category is a great reward indeed for our efforts. But wherever we place in this group, we’re immensely proud that our developments and projects are getting the recognition they deserve. Partnering with Ford, the CLASS project2 pushed the boundaries of what composites are capable of in the automotive industry.
GRM’s role within the CLASS project was to explore new CAE techniques, allowing for anisotropic multi-material topology optimisation of a prototype composite tieblade-knuckle, a design originally provided by Ford. Thanks to the use of our composite design optimisation plug-in for Abaqus, TruPly, this design process was able to match Ford’s current design and analysis workflow.
The JEC group’s Innovation Award is intended to “identify, promote, and reward the most innovative composite solutions worldwide”. Their selection criteria for the awards are based on technical excellence, exemplarity of the chain of partners, market potential, and originality, which we truly believe was delivered by the CLASS project.
